The Hubble space telescope recently made it One hundred thousandth orbit around the earth. And a productive one at that. In depth photos of the stellar nursery of the Tarantula nebula.
The Hubble may not see many more orbits unfortunately and the last maintenance mission is scheduled for October 2008.

Odd man out!
Weeell, its been a fun few weeks since I last made a news post so heres goes.
Iran is once again at the focus point of international attention. This time because of nuclear centrifuges that allow them to generate enriched nuclear material twice as fast as they used to. While Iran maintains that it’s nuclear is strictly for energy, the UN is not so sure. As a result a third set of UN sanctions against them are being drafted. Full story

The Trans-texas corridor is now subject to public hearings. The corridor is part of an initiative to build a 16 lane Superhighway from Mexico to Canada with accompanying rail lines. Amidst the many complaints are unpaid government land seizures, lack of customs gates on the planned route, other national security concerns. and the hazards to the many ecological settings it will traverse. A website dedicated to fighting the corridor is urging citizens to attend these hearings and voice their concerns, even while the project itself is downplaying any possible downsides.
On a lighter note, What would you do with a keyboard you could customize to to show anything on the keys on-the fly? Dream no more. They have made a keyboard with tiny OLED displays on each key, so that you can choose any 48×48 pixel icon or graphic or even video to display. Great for productivity, multimedia, or gaming. Hey all, I was lookin around the internet during a coffee break and lo-and-behold I found something neat!
Creative uses for the miniaturized technology of a Nintendo Wii Remote controller. Wiimote for short. Since the Wii uses bluetooth you can link it to your computer. Since it has an Infrared camera in it you can track points of light. Finally it has motion sensors. So what can you do with a stream of light and motion data fed directly into a computer? Answer: whatever you want. Check out this page of projects made by an engineering student with too much time on his hands.

These pretty little gadgets are not intended to replace Smart phones or notebook computers but instead act as a kind of intermediary.
